What this region lacks in quantity of river cruising, it makes up for with exoticism. This part of the world still has a slightly forbidden feel to it, so if you're looking for a travel experience your friends haven't already had, you'll likely find it here. Along the Danube's eastern reaches, sailings push past Budapest into Serbia and Romania toward the Black Sea, a far less-traveled stretch of a very well-traveled river. Further east, Russia's Volga carries travelers between Moscow and St. Petersburg through a landscape of onion-domed churches and imperial history.

We don't currently offer sailings on the Volga directly, but the Danube's eastward extension past Budapest — into Serbia, Romania, and the Danube Delta — is the most accessible way to get a taste of this less-touristed corner of Europe without leaving our regular river lineup; ask your advisor about lengthened Danube itineraries that push further east.
